Biography

Paul was born and raised in Dundee. He began his stage exploits at the age of seven, performing in several Dundee Scout Gang Shows. During his school years he participated in extra-curricular drama clubs and even school pantomime productions. He went on to complete 2 years with the Scottish Youth Theatre Summer Festival programs. Towards the end of his school years, Paul was given the role of Nathan Detroit in ‘Guys & Dolls’, the inaugural show by the Dundee Schools Music Theatre.

After high school, Paul took part in local musical theatre groups before moving away to Kirkcaldy to study Acting & Performance. While there, he took classes in Scriptwriting, Stage Fighting, Radio Drama and Physical Theatre to name a few. After college, Paul was successful in gaining a part in ‘A Most Curious Murder – The Madeleine Smith Story’ which was performed at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. This began his love affair with the festival.

Paul moved back to Dundee and became heavily involved with Dundee University’s LIP Theatre Company. With LIP Theatre, Paul took part in more shows at the Fringe, gaining recognition for Co-Writing the Sellout show ‘A Brief History Of Scotland – We Done Loads!’ which has since then been performed over 100 times including performances in London’s West End.

With the friends he made at LIP Theatre Company, Paul co-founded DBS Productions, a Dundee based Theatre production company which has gone on to almost 10 years of successful shows. With DBS, Paul has performed in a variety of shows in Dundee, at the Fringe, and also across Scotland and in London.

In his spare time, Paul enjoys playing guitar and writing/recording music. He also is a keen filmmaker and has worked on several short films with his friends, including founding the film production company ORC Films.

Paul’s dream roles to play would be Nathan Detroit (‘Guys & Dolls’ – again), Seymour Krelborn (‘Little Shop of Horrors’), Bottom (‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ – again) and ANY part in ‘Passing Places’ by Stephen Greenhorn.
